About the Opportunity
As the Warehouse and Logistics Manager for Austal Defence Australia (ADA), you’ll be responsible for planning, establishing and physically setting up new warehouse facilities to support new ship construction activities. This includes warehouse design and layout, racking and equipment installation, traffic and material flow planning, systems readiness, recruitment, procedures, training and operational launch.
Following the successful launch, the role will transition into ongoing management of Warehouse Operations and team members and will assume strategic oversight of existing warehousing activities ensuring safe efficient and controlled receipt, inspection, storage, preservation, staging, issue and dispatch of inventory, tools, raw material, manufactured and finished equipment.

What’s Involved
- Lead the establishment, mobilisation and operational readiness of warehouse facilities, including layout design, racking, equipment, storage solutions, systems implementation and process development.
- Manage safe, secure and compliant warehouse operations, ensuring adherence to HSEQ requirements, Defence regulations, Chain of Responsibility obligations and organisational policies.
- Build, lead and develop a high-performing Warehousing and Logistics team through recruitment, onboarding, performance management, coaching and workforce planning.
- Oversee inventory management activities, including receiving, inspection, storage, stock control, replenishment and material distribution to support production and project requirements.
- Plan and coordinate inbound and outbound logistics operations, ensuring goods are accurately documented, packaged, transported and delivered in accordance with operational and compliance requirements.
- Establish and manage distribution centres and warehouse networks, coordinating material movements between central warehouses, satellite facilities, suppliers and logistics partners.
- Monitor and improve warehouse performance through effective management of safety, productivity, stock accuracy, service levels, labour utilisation and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Develop strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, providing timely advice on material availability, warehouse capacity, supply chain risks and operational priorities to support business objectives.
You’ll Need
- Current forklift license
- Current manual driver’s licence
- 5+ years relevant Warehousing and Logistics experience within a Marine Support, Engineering, Manufacturing or Defence organisation
- Working experience in a computerised ERP environment
- Demonstrated ability to generate rapport with key internal customers and influence positive outcomes
- Tertiary level qualifications in Warehousing, Logistics, Supply Chain or similar (desirable)
- Eligibility for a Defence Security Clearance
