Senior Ship Maintenance Trainer/Assessor
About the Opportunity
As Senior Ship Maintenance Trainer/Assessor (T/A) for Austal Defence Australia (ADA), you’ll be responsible for leading a team of Maintenance T/As within the Operating Support and Training (OS&T) function. You’ll play a key role in capability ‘Introduction Into Service’ by leading maintenance support task analysis, Mission System Maintenance Workforce design and developing the ships maintenance procedures and training requirements needed for successful handover to the customer.
You’ll ensure subcontractor and customer crews are fully prepared to maintain their Mission System through to customer acceptance, while providing day to day leadership, mentoring junior T/As and mariner trainees, and guiding the development of technical data within the Integrated Product Support (IPS) framework.
Reporting to the OS&T Lead, you’ll work closely with the Operator T/A and wider IPS disciplines to deliver a cohesive, highâquality maintenance support solution

What’s Involved
- Analyse Mission System tasks to shape maintenance procedures, HSI, workforce needs and training.
- Develop clear, traceable user procedures and maintenance manuals aligned with IPS elements.
- Ensure safe, compliant and verifiable maintenance plans, crews and readiness milestones.
- Plan and deliver training in line with SADL/ADDIE, keeping records accurate and up to date.
- Produce complete, current and contractâcompliant maintenance training materials.
- Provide integrated IPS inputs across design, training, manpower, technical data and facilities.
- Mentor junior T/As and crew to maintain high Mission System standards through IIS to acceptance.
You’ll Need
- Australian citizenship and eligibility for a Baseline AGSVA Security Clearance.
- TAE40116 or TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or higher).
- At least 5 years’ experience in maritime maintenance or technical support.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in maritime or Defence training environments.
- Proven leadership capability in supervising instructors and coordinating training delivery.
- Experience developing technical documents such as maintenance procedures or user manuals.
- Engineer Class 3 Near Coastal (AMSAâendorsed) or working toward an equivalent qualification.
- Experience with LMS platforms, eâlearning development or simulationâbased training.
- Familiarity with training compliance frameworks and regulatory requirements.
- Experience developing Interactive Electronic Technical Publications (IETPs).
