About the Opportunity
Austal Ships is seeking a Scheduler to support the planning and delivery of the shipbuilding scope of major Defence programs. The role is responsible for developing, maintaining and analysing detailed production schedules that reflect engineering release, material availability, workforce sequencing and contractual milestones.
Working within a Defence prime / subcontractor delivery environment, the Scheduler will ensure shipbuilding activities are logically constructed, statused accurately, and integrated with program-level schedules. The role provides critical schedule insight to production, planning and project leadership, supporting informed decision-making and proactive risk management.

Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, maintain and control detailed shipbuilding schedules in accordance with approved planning standards, contractual requirements and program milestones.
- Establish and maintain schedule baselines, apply approved changes, and ensure logic, sequencing and constraints accurately reflect the shipbuilding execution strategy.
- Collect, validate and incorporate progress status from Production, Engineering and Workface Planning teams, ensuring schedule data integrity and timeliness.
- Perform schedule analysis including critical path evaluation, float consumption, trend analysis and identification of emerging schedule risks.
- Provide early warning of schedule impacts and support the development of recovery and mitigation strategies.
- Interface with program-level master schedulers to align subcontractor schedules and manage dependencies across engineering, supply chain, production, test and commissioning activities.
- Develop and maintain Primavera P6 schedules using approved coding structures, progress measurement methodologies and data quality standards.
- Prepare and present schedule reports, look-ahead, forecasts and performance metrics, translating complex planning data into clear, actionable insights for production and management stakeholders.
About You:
- Diploma or higher qualification in Project Management, Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline, or equivalent demonstrated experience within shipbuilding, defence, heavy manufacturing or similarly complex delivery environments.
- Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining detailed schedules in an integrated production or project delivery setting.
- Formal training and practical experience using Primavera P6.
- Strong understanding of schedule logic, critical path analysis, progress measurement and baseline control.
- Ability to work effectively with production, engineering and supply chain teams to validate progress and resolve planning issues.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present schedule information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
