About the Opportunity
As the Piping and Mechanical Technical Coordinator at Austal Ships in Henderson, you will act as the subject matter expert for all piping and mechanical systems across new shipbuilding, ensuring build process integrity, compliance, efficiency and continual improvement. You be involved with all stages of the engineering lifecycle â from detailed design input, producibility, piping and mechanical departmental support, in accordance with class rules, statutory regulations and contractual requirements.

What’s Involved
- Oversee the piping and mechanical systems installation standards across newbuild projects, upholding all technical standards and design philosophies.
- Review and provide feedback for designs, materials, and producibility implications while providing guidance to the Piping and Mechanical team.
- Provide input to the development of P&IDs, schematics, layouts and specifications, ensuring full compliance with producibility requirements, class, flag and contractual requirements.
- Develop technical scope of work packages for mechanical and piping systems to be sub-contracted.
- Provide expert support during construction, installation, commissioning and sea trials phases, working with others to resolve complex technical issues quickly.
- Identify and implement piping and mechanical process installation improvements.
- Lead P&M material planning, ensuring accurate material takeâoffs, timely procurement, packaging of subcontracted scopes, and timely provision of materials and spool orders.
- Act as the key piping and mechanical technical contact for quality issues, process improvement opportunities and technical queries.
- Drive change control, risk management, quality, and continuous improvement across all piping and mechanical deliverables.
You’ll Need
- Diploma or Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or Marine engineering
- Trade qualified with 10+ year’s experience in piping and mechanical new build shipbuilding projects
