What’s Involved

  • Examining customer requirements and leading the development, design and integration activities ensuring compliance with contractual, regulatory, and technical requirements
  • Leading the fitout design scope internally and with external sub-contractors to develop and deliver deliverables to schedule, supporting procurement and production
  • Planning and monitoring day to day and future work of the fitout team, to progress the deliverables to schedule
  • Monitoring and highlighting roadblocks, risks and schedule impacts, implementing mitigation measures, and escalating as required
  • Managing and coaching the team to ensure performance, productivity and priorities to meet project deadlines and company strategies
  • Developing and delivering fitout designs, layouts and detailed drawings using AutoCAD
  • Ensuring designs comply with specifications, class rules, regulatory requirements and internal standards
  • Coordinating fitout interfaces with other design disciplines, production, suppliers and certification authorities
  • Managing design inputs, changes and priorities across project schedules
  • Providing technical direction and support to Fitout Designers and drafters
  • Supporting production, commissioning and delivery through effective design resolution
  • Driving design quality, consistency and continuous improvement across fitout processes
  • Acting as a technical point of contact for fitout matters with stakeholders and where required, customers
  • Monitoring progress and earned value, and reporting to the scheduling team

You’ll Need

  • Formal drafting qualification with a design or interior design background
  • Extensive experience in fitout design with marine, shipbuilding, heavy engineering or multidisciplinary engineering environments
  • Strong technical understanding of production methods and constructability
  • Advanced capability in AutoCAD and design documentation practices
  • Intermediate to Advanced Microsoft Office skills, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • 3D design review experience highly regarded
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor and coordinate designers
  • A positive attitude and desire to work in and further build a growing cohesive multidisciplinary defence shipbuilding team
  • Confident communicator who can liaise across disciplines and external parties
  • Highly organised, proactive and accountable for outcomes
  • Eligibility for a Defence Security Clearance
