About the Opportunity

The Fabrication Coordinator is accountable for ensuring Supervisors and Contractors are provided with and understand a clear plan to deliver on their responsibilities. Coordinators are required to work collaboratively with the Supervisors to allow them to provide deliverables on time, in full, to standard, all in a safe working environment. To achieve this, Coordinators need to be a supportive and visual leader enabling their teams to reach their full potential.

What’s Involved 

• Develop a strong understanding of vessel specifications, contract drawings and build strategy.
• Review and coordinate planning, design, supply chain and project deliverables to ensure schedule alignment.
• Collaborate with Trades, Supervisors and PCM to deliver clear weekly activity plans.
• Ensure timely delivery of design information, materials, parts, tools and resources to support production (JIT to point of use).
• Coordinate resource allocation and inter-departmental work orders to maintain workflow.
• Provide visible leadership on the production floor, promoting a strong safety-first culture.
• Ensure compliance with HSEQ standards, quality requirements and organisational procedures.
• Monitor build progress, material flow and schedule adherence, escalating risks and constraints as required.
• Support Supervisors through coaching, performance feedback and workforce development.
• Drive continual improvement initiatives, waste reduction and effective issue resolution.
• Maintain accurate weekly schedule reporting and ensure product conformance prior to customer checks.

You’ll Need

• Relevant trade qualification (or aligned discipline).
• Minimum 3 years’ supervisory experience.
• Strong technical and construction knowledge of Austal vessels.
• Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate, influence and manage people effectively.
• Demonstrated conflict resolution, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong planning, scheduling, time management and cost control capability, with a track record of meeting deadlines.
• Thorough understanding and application of organisational policies, procedures and standards, including HSEQ and HR.
• Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel), Pronto, Primavera, BMS and DAD (AutoCAD, Autodesk, Navisworks).
• Front Line Management and Senior First Aid (desirable).
