Design & Engineering Support Manager
About the Role
The Design and Engineering Support Manager leads multi-disciplinary teams to deliver complex shipbuilding and defence projects safely, on time, and within budget. Based in Henderson, WA, this role is critical in connecting design, engineering, and production teams to support the delivery of Australia’s sovereign maritime capability.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Design Delivery: Oversee the development of shipbuilding drawings, models, and technical specifications, ensuring compliance with Defence standards and classification requirements.
- Manage the Team: Lead, mentor, and coordinate engineers, designers, and drafters to deliver high-quality outputs in a safety-first environment.
- Coordinate Across Programs: Work closely with production, project controls, supply chain, and external stakeholders to resolve technical issues and maintain schedule alignment.
- Drive Continuous Improvement: Improve engineering workflows, tools, and systems to enhance efficiency and reduce rework.
- Ensure Quality & Compliance: Conduct reviews and assurance activities to ensure outputs meet regulatory, contractual, and safety requirements.
About You
- Strong background in engineering design within shipbuilding, defence, or heavy industry
- Proven leadership experience managing technical teams in a complex project environment
- Skilled in managing schedules, budgets, and resource planning
- Confident communicator with the ability to engage across engineering, production, and client stakeholders
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Engineering (Naval Architecture, Mechanical, Electrical, or similar)
- Experience supporting large-scale construction, maritime, or defence programs
- Familiarity with Defence standards, classification societies, and shipbuilding processes is highly regarded
