About the Opportunity
The Engineer â Control Monitoring & Autonomy (CM&A) supports the full lifecycle of vessel control system development, from concept to delivery, ensuring timely and cost-effective execution. The role ensures all outputs meet Austal’s technical standards, client requirements, and regulatory compliance, while also providing ongoing support for the operation, maintenance, and updates of control system software and hardware throughout the vessel’s service life.

What’s Involved
- Produce accurate documentation that meets procedural and audit requirements.
- Ensure work is completed within deadlines to avoid compromising construction deliverables.
- Communicate effectively through drawings, verbal, and written formats with all relevant stakeholders.
- Demonstrate a proactive attitude toward innovation and continuous improvement.
- Actively seek alternative methods to enhance task efficiency and effectiveness.
You’ll Need
- Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical, Computer, or equivalent discipline.
- Industry experience in automation and control systems.
- Understanding of regulatory body rules and compliance requirements.
- Perform assigned engineering tasks under supervision.
- Develop detailed hardware and software designs with guidance.
- Collaborate with other design disciplines for system integration.
- Liaise with the Electrical workshop during switchboard construction.
- Support commissioning of Austal and third-party systems onboard vessels.
Favourable experience
- Schneider M580 and M340 PLC/PAC including Control Expert Classic.
- Schneider TSX PLC including PL7 Pro and Unity Pro.
- Operational Technology communication protocols including Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, OPCUA, MQTT, PROFIBUS DP, PROFINET, Ethernet/IP and NMEA0183/2000.
- Citect SCADA 2015 (7.5) and earlier.
- Distributed IO systems including Wago IO 750 series and Schneider Advantys IO.
- Siemens S7 PLC and DCS including TIA Portal and PCS7.
- Wago PFC 750 series and CodeSys.
