Assistant Project Engineer
About the Opportunity
Based in Henderson, the Assistant Project Engineer will be responsible for supporting the effective management of Systems Engineering and technical activities for the ABF Evolved Cape Class Patrol Vessels, ensuring overall project success.
Reporting to the Project Engineering Manager, you will contribute to the coordination and delivery of systems engineering outputs and technical documentation across the project lifecycle, from initiation through to vessel acceptance. You will also support the delivery of key information products, ensuring they are accurate, complete, and aligned with project requirements.
You will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to support design reviews, verification and validation activities, and the integration of complex marine systems within a shipbuilding environment.

What’s Involved
- Contribute to systems engineering planning (including SEMP), ensuring design outputs meet requirements and standards.
- Assist with the management of technical risk and the project safety case, ensuring risks and actions are tracked and maintained.
- Engage with regulatory bodies and stakeholders, ensuring compliance, coordination, and effective delivery of technical requirements.
- Contribute to the delivery of engineering and technical project outcomes, including scheduling, reporting, and ensuring requirements and milestones are met.
You’ll Need
- Bachelor of Engineering
- 5+ years’ experience in engineering or design environments (desirable)
- Ability to work autonomously with a proactive and professional approach
- Experience supporting technical schedules
- Exposure to maritime regulatory and statutory requirements (desirable)
- Diploma or higher in Project Management (desirable)
- Certificate IV in Risk Management (desirable)
- Experience within the Defence industry (desirable)
- Formal leadership or frontline management training (desirable)
- Eligibility for a Defence Security Clearance
